28 years of layers

Jonathan Foerster has made digital art since 1998, first as Cugar on cugardesign, and as atleastwedream since 2008. The early work was abstract 3D in the Metalheart style of the time, built in Bryce 3D and 3ds Max and reworked in Photoshop. The 2001 version of the cugardesign site is now in the Web Design Museum, and Beeple has called his cugardesign work a huge influence on him in college.

His titles are mostly Latin, so a name doesn’t decide what an image means before you’ve looked at it. Since 2021 the work has been figurative: deities, angels, figures from literature, and pieces inspired by the old masters, made in DAZ Studio, Cinema 4D and ZBrush, many with short motion versions.

He has been a member of the Depthcore collective since 2002. Follow new work on X and Instagram.
